The Need to Read

Posted on

You know you spend too much time on your iPad when you attempt to scroll down whilst reading a book. Yes, this really happened to me as I reached the end of a page in my muchly dragged out ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ which I bought nearly 2 years ago and still haven’t finished. But I expected this of myself when I originally bought the book which is explained in a previous post entitled ‘OMG… I Bought a Book!’ . I put it down months ago and didn’t pick it back up until last night. I’m determined to finish it as I also plan to make reading books a regular thing.

After purchasing some books as Christmas presents for others recently, I realised that there are some great titles out there that appeal to me but the thought of getting through another book is draining. But I’ve come to the conclusion that if I read more books, the more my concentration will improve. Before I think about buying another book, I have to finish ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ first. I WILL finish it though and I will also spend LESS time on the internet.

OMG… I Bought a Book!

I love London and I think London loves me considering the amount of money I spend there. Yesterday I enjoyed a day to myself. I started off by grabbing a hot chocolate from Candy Cakes; a place I visit when I’m not craving a Chai tea latte from Starbucks. It’s a lovely little shop with colourful cakes which unfortunately are not entirely vegetarian so I can’t eat them but they are nice to look at, like little works of art.

What followed that day had me stunned… I bought a book! You guys are probably thinking ‘big deal’ but it is to me. I never read books, mainly because I have a very short attention span and have poor concentration. Even if I start reading a book; its very rare that I finish it. My mind wanders and I get bored.

I went into my favourite shop Forbidden Planet Megastore where I usually buy vinyl toys to add to my collection but nothing took my fancy, so I went downstairs to the books and Graphic novels and hung around for a bit; picking up and putting down books until I picked up this one book that caught my eye and I started reading parts of it.

The book in question is ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ created by Stephen Jones. It contains a log of events from various people in the form of letters and emails during a new Festival of Britain. Various activities in preparation to this festival causes an old plague to be unearthed, infecting helpless humans and turning them into flesh-eating creatures. It’s certainly my kind of book and I look forward to actually finishing this one.

The Joys of Christmas Shopping

You might detect a hint of sarcasm in that title, in fact you would be spot on. It’s one of the most mind numbing event’s that I have to endure each year. I don’t think I can get away with purchasing gift vouchers for a third year running. Yep… I’m going to have to put some effort into it this time which means surviving the crowds and stopping myself from hitting slow moving people in the back of the head (I wouldn’t really do something like that but I can visualise it). It almost turns into some sort of Zombie apocalypse but with humans.

surprisingly I don’t shop online so I have to do things the old fashioned way and when your in the middle of Primark trying to decide which jumper you should buy your mum; looking at the mile long queue at the same time, you start to wish Aliens would come and abduct you there and then. Each year I say how I’m going to start my Christmas shopping early but this year, as with all the others has been one big epic fail.

I sympathise with anyone who feels the same way about Christmas shopping but be strong and carry on… you can do it!
