Big IF London

Posted on

Yesterday (8th June) myself and my niece Jordan attended the Big IF London Rally in Hyde Park to contribute to the thousands of campaigners who turned up to make some noise to persuade G8 leaders to put an end to world hunger, which has been an ongoing issue for many years. I was made aware of this event through Jordan who is a fan of YouTuber Charlie McDonnell (Charlieissocoollike) who has teamed up with Save The Children and his mum Lindsay Atkin to raise awareness of malnutrition. They experienced the effects of this first hand through a trip to Tanzania. While they were out there they made a series of video’s to make others aware of this problem too. Inspired by their determination to make a difference, I thought I should do my bit and share this with you all.

Hyde park was the ideal location to hold this event and we had such lovely weather for it too. Hosts Myleene Klass and Gethin Jones welcomed a variety of performers and speakers onto the main stage to help get the message across and different support groups had areas set up on location. We mingled around the video bloggers tent where a few other YouTubers had arrived to be part of the day.

We headed over to a separate part of the park to contribute to the thousands of spinning flowers which had been planted by campaigners. Each petal on each flower represented the 2 million children who die of hunger each year. This was an impressive sight and a powerful message to send to world leaders.

Here’s how it all unravelled.

I really hope that we all made a big enough impact for world leaders to take notice and do something. This isn’t just a problem in Tanzania and other parts of the world but also affects families in the UK. Nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry every night. This has to end. To find out more about the campaign, go to the main website HERE. You can help by raising awareness in a way you know best…blogging! You can write your own post or re-blog mine. The more publicity the better.

MCM Comic Con

I’m having a break from the cruise stuff to bring you news of my recent shenanigans. Myself and my niece attended MCM for the first time on Saturday (25th May) and we couldn’t believe how crazy it was. Being used to Showmasters events I was unaware of the scale of MCM… it was massive and there were so many people you could barely move; and that was after two hours of queuing to get in. I didn’t go to see anyone in particular but I took my niece along to meet some of her favourite YouTubers at Vidfest, an apparently new addition to the event.

You would never feel silly cosplaying at this event because most people do. In fact you would probably feel silly if you weren’t taking part in some sort of cosplay. Anyway while I was there I met a YouTuber called Chris Kendall whose videos my niece introduced me to about a month ago. I told him how awesome his animal impression video was and he said he was thinking of making another one. I do hope so because this made me laugh.

Here’s a few photos I took on the day

It’s been all go this past week. Work has been busy and there hasn’t been enough hours in the day to do everything I need to do before I go away. I’ve been spending a bit of time with my niece recently for various reasons, one or two being Dan Howell and Phil Lester. This is where I start from the beginning to avoid confusion. It all started about 5 or 6 years ago when I introduced her to my favourite YouTuber Cory Williams. I then made her aware of some of my other favourite YouTubers such as Katers17, Charles Trippy, ShayCarl and iJustine. Her curiosity got the better of her and she started looking for others… mainly the younger ones as she is only 14. Two of her favourite YouTubers are also BBC radio 1 presenters that have their own show on a Sunday evening. On two occasions I have had to take her to meet her heroes who have a huge teenage following so being a 32-year-old I felt a bit like the odd one out. Fortunately I don’t think anyone noticed so I grabbed a sneaky photo for myself.

Phil, me and DanTuesday night we went to see WWE Smackdown at London o2 arena. This was my first ever WWE live event. Excited wasn’t the word. I shouted so much I nearly lost my voice. It was a thoroughly entertaining night despite the fact that My favourite Wrestler ‘Sheamus’ lost to ‘the Big Show’. I also touched the arm of Roman Reigns (one part of ‘the Shield’) as he walked past me towards the ring, all was good until I realised I had a handful of grease so proceeded to wipe it on my niece haha! It was satisfying to watch ‘the Undertaker’ Beat ‘Dean Ambrose’ but man they are sore losers. After Dean tapped out all 3 of the Shield decided to beat the crap out of ‘the Undertaker’ who has been in WWE for longer than I can remember.

Anyway I’m now all set for my holiday around the Canary Islands with my friends Debbie and Heidi and will be taking my new ipad with me so I can blog when I’m away. Fingers crossed it works. We leave on Saturday 4th May. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet, whether I’m going to make a daily holiday diary or do it some other way. Stay tuned to find out 🙂

Lazy Blogger

This must have been the longest time I’ve been away from my blog since I started it. Yet again I don’t really have a valid excuse other than I was feeling lazy. Anyhow I’ve been up to all sorts and have lots to share with you. But seeing as I have quite a bit to say, I’m going to blog in two or three separate posts. So starting on a more personal note, I attended the eagerly awaited wedding of my brother at the beginning of September. Dean and Sarah married at a Tonbridge Wells registry office, moved onto a lovely scenic park for photos and finished at a nice country pub for the reception which was fully hired out. Entertainment consisted of a Frank Sinatra singer, magician and a good DJ with disco. I was in my element. The Rose was free-flowing and my requests for the DJ proved amusing. My niece became my dance partner for the evening but my moves on the other hand… well lets not go there shall we ha ha!

Also last month I went along to Hyde Park to meet Sam Clark for a fan gathering. For those who don’t know, Sam Clark used to play a character called Ringo in the Australian soap opera “Neighbours”. Since leaving the show he has been pursuing a music career. He bought his guitar along and played us a few acoustic songs which went down a treat.

I recently started to help my niece vlog and upload to YouTube. I also decided to make my own vlogging channel but after attempting my first vlog, I realised I just looked and sounded stupid, not to mention how ridiculous I felt talking to a camera in public. Jordan still continues to vlog on occasions and seems to appear a little more natural when doing it. We did capture some funny moments and I will continue to help her. You can check out her channel via this link http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCizjS1VyLEdw0az7oBVj_dg

Speaking of vlogging, I met Charles and Alli Trippy last weekend at the Contiki Road trip London meetup. It was an amazing experience for me. They were as lovely as they are in their vlogs. There were other YouTubers there but I only wanted to meet Charles and Alli and after 2 hours of waiting in the cold, it finally happened.

A Look Back On My 2011

Posted on

As I took a short walk earlier I started to think about all the things that I have done this year and what a great year its been overall. The most memorable moments started with a trip to Dublin in March during St Patrick’s week. In that time we saw Boyzone at the Dublin O2 arena and went to Dublin zoo. There was never a dull moment, even back at the hotel while getting ready for nights out we would listen to music and have a glass or two of rose. The St Patrick’s day parade was crazy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people attend such an event all at once. It certainly was an incredible experience.

I attended a few Boyzone Concerts this year, a couple of Westlife and one Take That which was an amazing birthday present from my brother and his fiancée. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a rock chick at heart but 90’s boy bands are my guilty pleasure.

This year has definitely been the year of the musical for me, I’ve clocked up an impressive 42 shows which include:

Jersey Boys x25

Ghost x3

Betty Blue Eyes x1

Legally Blonde x6

Lend me a Tenor x1

Grease x1

Mamma Mia x1

Rock of Ages x1

Priscilla x1

Wizard of Oz x1

I call it dedication… my parents call it a waste of money!

Another great moment was when I met my favourite YouTubers Katers17 and Cory Williams of SMP Films and Mean Kitty. They set up a fan meet up in Trafalgar Square, London back in September and caused quite a stir as they spent the whole day mingling with the crowd.

I’m hoping that 2012 will have lots more great things in store for me, I already have a few things in mind anyway. My new motto is to ‘live each day as if it’s you’re last’ – especially if this “end of the world” thing is true and we may not live to see 2013.
