2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Thank you WordPress, I do love these annual reports. Sad, I know, but it’s true. Simple things have always pleased my little mind.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,100 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

This, once again gives me the opportunity to thank everyone who has visited, liked, commented and followed my blog. I really do appreciate the time you spend reading my posts. I hope to achieve more blogging success in 2014. See you on the other side 🙂

Blogging Etiquette

Posted on

There’s nothing worse than seeing a nasty comment on a new blog post that you may have put a lot of thought and effort into. Fortunately I’ve been blessed with a kind audience that like and leave nice comments on my posts which continuously boosts my blogging confidence. Yes I’ve had one or two negative comments since I started my blog around 16 months ago but that is to be expected. Not everyone is going to agree with you. Some people are not so fortunate.

A friend of mine has experienced a lot of negativity on her blog for a while now and it has effected her deeply, to the point where she doesn’t want to write a new post in fear that she will get some abuse thrown back at her for it. There isn’t anything offensive in her content and it baffles us as to who could be so cruel and really quite personal with their responses.

My motto when replying to people’s posts is to leave a constructive and friendly comment. I’ve always been one to avoid conflict, even online. You may not know the person you are replying to, but think about how your comment is going be perceived by them. If I read something that I don’t agree with I simply don’t leave a comment. That’s probably not how everyone works but as I see it WordPress is here to be enjoyed, not to get angry at.

Breaking My Own Rules

Posted on

After much consideration, Today I did something that I wouldn’t normally do. I gave into my rule of not buying big brand named items and bought an iPad 2. The reason why I wouldn’t normally do this is because there is usually an alternative that does the job just as good and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I did my research and read reviews but in the end with a little input from friends on Facebook, decided that the iPad 2 would suit my needs the best.

So for the very first time I am writing this post from the chosen device and slowly figuring out how to use WordPress on it. So far I have no idea how to use tags so may have to edit this on my laptop. But the interesting part will be the moment I come to upload photos. I sincerely hope I don’t end up feeling the need to throw it against a wall at any point. My main reason for this purchase is so I can keep my existing audience (and hopefully a few new ones) up to date with my holiday adventures as well as getting with the times :)

If anyone reading this uses WordPress regularly on their iPad then please leave any tips and advise in the comments below.

[Well that was a big fail. I actually created a new top page… had no idea how to do that before but now I do haha! Just had to copy and paste to create this post which is cheating a little. I’ll get used to it eventually I suppose, preferably by the time I go away though].

31 Day Gratitude Experiment – Week 1

Posted on

I’ve completed the first week of my ’31 Day Gratitude Experiment’ successfully even if some days I have more to be grateful for than others. There’s probably lots of obvious things that I’ve forgotten to add but this is what I’ve got so far:

Day 1

I am grateful for:

  • The ability to be creative.
  • The technology I use on a daily basis.
  • Social networking sites which keep me in contact with friends.
  • Having a roof over my head and comforts such as a nice hot bath.
  • Friends that are only a text away.
  • My parents who are always there and do a lot for me.
  • My niece who makes me laugh.
  • The memories I made last year.

Day 2

I am grateful for:

  • Having a secure job.
  • Working with nice people.
  • Being able to buy the things I want.
  • Having hot meals cooked for me.
  • Having heating that works and being able to put it on when needed.

Day 3

I am grateful for:

  • Hearing the bird song early in the morning.
  • Having holidays and events to look forward to.
  • Being able to share common interests with people.
  • Having an understanding and accommodating boss.
  • Being in good health.

Day 4

I am grateful for:

  • Not having to work weekends.
  • Spending quality time with family.
  • Living so close to central London.
  • The amazing shows I get to see.
  • Being able to afford to take my niece out.
  • Seeing my niece laugh and enjoy herself.
  • Being able to share experiences with the WordPress audience.
  • The new memories that I’m starting to make this year.

Day 5

I am grateful for:

  • Being able to enjoy a lay in.
  • Being me and not having to pretend to be someone I’m not.
  • Being able to enjoy a wide range of music.
  • How lucky I am to be an able bodied person.
  • Being able to eat anything without putting on weight.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,500 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Well thank you great stats helper monkey’s!

Despite getting the most ever views on my post ‘A Super Disappointment’ I had absolutely NO likes on it. The infamous crown of thorns subject caused quite a stir. Yes it was rather controversial and I wrote it in haste but did I really deserve the one (quite childish if I may add) comment that I received from a Sarah Jane Willow who obviously thought my opinion counts for others. I’m sorry to say I can give back just as much as I get. But can I just say that what I include in my blog posts is a matter of interest and personal taste and  doesn’t necessarily reflect the opinions of others. I’m just a mere speck in the blogosphere. I do respect the opinions of other and encourage people to leave comments on my posts (more comments please) if they are constructive and don’t launch into abusive drivel.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the biggest commenter of my blog posts the lovely Miss Hayley who also writes some fantabulous blog posts so please check her out.

to all my visitors/followers please don’t pass by without a like or a comment as it’s nice to know that people exist out there once in a while 🙂

with much appreciation

Sheryl

1 year Anniversary

I don’t often publish two blog posts in the same day but seeing as WordPress have just kindly informed me that I started my blog a year ago today It would be rude of me to let it go un-noticed. I have so far enjoyed blogging immensely and have surprised myself by being consistent which I was a little apprehensive about to begin with. I have stuck to it and as a result have become a typical blogger. I’m always thinking about my next potential blog. When I’m out and about or even at work, I’ll have idea’s whirling around in my head. Sometimes I won’t go out without my camera in case I come across something that I can include in a blog post. I plan upcoming events so that I have something interesting to blog about. I am officially an obsessive blogger.

I decided that I wouldn’t write daily blogs as I would run out of things to say and it would become boring for the readers and I continue to stick by my rule. I would like to say a huge thank you to my followers, I have appreciated every single like and comment I have received. I will carry on blogging for as long as I’m getting views and already 2013 holds many great blogging opportunities for me which I’m very excited about. See you in my next blog post… over and out 😛
