Bitten 3 Weekend

Posted on

Over the past couple of weeks I had been preparing for the Bitten 3 True Blood convention, making sure I had my costumes for the themed parties to ensure I looked the part for the long weekend away at the Park Inn, Northampton. The event was held at the weekend just gone and I can honestly say I had the most amazing time. I won’t go too much into detail because I shall be writing a review about it, so I’ll stick to the more personal side of it. I met my friends at Euston station where we made our way to Northampton together. I had met Maxine and Sam previously through my friend Mandy and once at the hotel I met two other people who they knew and I made friends with.

As well as meeting True Blood guests and getting autographs and photo’s of them, we had the most awesome parties. Friday nights themed party was Merlottes Halloween party where we could basically dress up as anything we wanted. I found a great scary clown costume on Amazon and I was eager to wear it that night. The costume went down well and I received some lovely comments from the con goers.

The hall was decked out with skeletons and other amusing bits and bobs. The party went on until the early hours. My head felt a little fuzzy the next day but I powered on through photo shoots and autographs. Saturday nights party was themed around Fangtasia, the vampire and human nightclub from the show. So we donned our best corsets and partied hard yet again 🙂

The last party on the Sunday night was ‘Fellowship of the Sun’ themed, a group against vampires… so I bought myself  some fake vampire killing weapons to protect everyone 🙂

Overall I had a fab time spending time with new friends, True Blood stars and people who have the same interest as me. Unfortunately this Bitten Convention was the last but I’m excited to see what else Massive events come up with next.

Being Human – The Big Change

Posted on

I’ve just finished watching series two of ‘Being Human’… I know I’m a late starter and there’s not really a valid excuse for it but as the saying goes; better late than never! and in this case that saying definitely sums it up. I mean, how can you beat such a great combination? A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost all living under the same roof. Its horror/fiction fans idea of heaven. So far my verdict is a big thumbs up. It has proved very addictive due to the superb story-lines and the original 3 amazing actors playing the main parts; all of which struggle with trying to be as normal as possible within their day-to-day lives. It doesn’t quite work out that way though.

Russell Tovey’s portrayal of a werewolf is beyond awesome. George is a sensitive soul but extremely comical, he’s had me in fits of laughter on many occasions throughout the first two series’. He’s struggling to come to terms with the fact that he may never be a part of a normal family. His ultimate dream is to have a wife and lots of kids. He expresses his emotions really well and will have you tearing up at the littlest things bless him. He’s the kind of character you just want to hug. He plays the part so well that he’ll have you convinced that he’s really turning into a werewolf; his display of pain and the scared expression on his face will make you cringe but I can’t say much for the werewolf itself… that’s not so convincing! they could have made it a little more realistic considering the technology they have these days. George is probably my favourite character.

Aidan Turner is very vampire like. They hit the nail on the head when they cast him, probably because they knew he was going to be popular with the ladies. He’s tall, dark, handsome and a little rugged… just what a vampire should look like! well in my eye’s anyway 🙂 Mitchell certainly adds a darker and more gorier side to the show. He too is longing for a more human life, but his attempts to go; how shall I put it… cold turkey (with feeding from humans) doesn’t really go so well.

Lenora Critchlow plays a very pretty ghost who was killed by her ex Fiance. After finding out the truth about what happened to her, Annie still can’t exit this world and leave her best friends George and Mitchell behind who have also become very attached to the slightly scatty apparition with an outstanding tea making ability. Annie adds vulnerability to the show but gets stronger with each venture she experiences. The friendship and loyalty of all three characters is rather heart-warming, excuse the pun.

Now here’s where someone sticks a pin in my bubble and bursts it! Having just found out that 3 of the now four main characters have been killed off,  its left me feeling somewhat… disappointed and disheartened. Obviously those of you who have been watching all along already know and is old news. Fortunately I’ve heard some good things about the new cast which is promising but it doesn’t help the way I feel about losing George and Mitchell even though I have to wait until series 4 to see the big change and I haven’t even seen series 3 yet. I just hope the new characters have some of the qualities which made George and Mitchell so appealing. Now I wait I suppose.
