Sucked in!

Well I’ve done exactly what I said I wouldn’t do and made a Pinterest account. As if I wasn’t wasting enough time on various sites I now have that extra worry about finding that perfect picture to add to my boards. So now I’m probably looking a little bit stupid after slating social networking sites on a previous blog post entitled ‘To Pinterest or not to Pinterest’ and considering I now use facebook a lot more since I wrote that blog too.

I only joined late last night but already have an impressive array of pictures of ‘True Blood’, ‘the Vampire Diaries’ and Les Miserables cast members. The best thing is I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing. So if you are even remotely interested you can check out my pinterest page HERE and if any of you are using pinterest please leave a link to your page in the comments below.

My First London Film and Comic Con

Posted on

I’ve been wanting to go to one of these for a few years now but never got around to it. If I’m honest my first experience was a little disappointing due to the poor organisation of the event. I spent most of my time waiting around and queuing and I only had 3 photo-shoots booked so I don’t know how people only going for the day managed to do more than that and some talks as well. I didn’t even get much time to look around all of the stalls but the ones that I did see were really good with items being reasonably priced. I bought 4 mounted pictures of True Blood and the Vampire Diaries at £5 each and a Lost Boys mug at £5. In a way I’m glad I didn’t look at much as I would have spent a fortune on things that I didn’t essentially need.

I liked my photo shoot pictures though and I was most excited about meeting Alex Winter of ‘Bill and Ted’ and ‘The lost Boys’ fame especially as The Lost Boys is my favourite film of all time. Another impressive guest was Gillian Anderson… I used to be a big X-Files fan back in the day. And as I am currently working my way through Heroes, I had to have a photo taken with Hayden Panetierre 🙂

As LFCC had been moved to Kensington Olympia this year, its understandable that things were a little out of sorts for them. Having to organise an event like this must be incredibly difficult, especially when it involves having to get hold of guests. They certainly pulled that off really well as there were an array of guests to please everyone. Depending on next years guests I would definitely give it another go at Earls Court.

Putting Theory into Practice

Since my last post, I thought I should really start taking this journalism stuff seriously and have worked on my very first music review. I did some research on how to write an album review and tried it for myself. As it’s my first there’s probably quite a bit wrong with it, but I’m not going to learn if I don’t make mistakes. I’m not going to be a successful review writer over night. I have created yet another new blog especially for my review and article writing. You can read my review here http://sherylsreviews.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/hello-world/  I hope to try my hand at a bit of everything from product reviews and pub reviews to film reviews. I plan to be consistent with my writing, I just need to find things to review… I already have a few things in mind.

I’m currently having ‘The Vampire Diaries’ withdrawal symptoms after finishing season 2 and I’m very much looking forward to getting my hands on season 3. Yesterday I watched ‘Paul’ for the first time, the film about the alien starring the perfect duo Nick Frost and Simon Pegg and loved it… I mean what geek wouldn’t! an alien, conventions, Pegg and Frost… what a fantastic combination 🙂

Random Days are the Best!

Hello there Blog masters! thought I would check in and tell you a little about how my Easter weekend has been so far! Firstly I’d like to thank Jesus for the four days off work… its much appreciated! I’m currently listening to the awesome new Lostprophets album which has been long-awaited. It’s good to have them back on the scene and I can’t wait to see them perform again next month.

I’m eagerly getting through the second season of the Vampire Diaries but I don’t want to come to the end of it. I just can’t get enough of Damon Salvatore 🙂 the story lines are as exciting as ever and the intensity quite often leaves me holding my breath. Elena quite clearly needs to get it on with Damon… we all love a bad boy!

My holiday wardrobe is almost complete. A major shopfest on Friday turned out to be successful although I did start off by thinking that it was going to be a pointless trip… maybe I should think like that every time I go shopping as when I go feeling optimistic I often can’t find anything I want. Just a few more things to get now and then I’m done.

I’m loving the early birthday present that my mum presented me with. Although my birthday isn’t for another couple of months I wasn’t going to complain. I can honestly say that the geek in me truly came out when I clapped eyes on my new Marvel bag. I can now carry my London Film and Comic con photo shoot pictures around with me in style in July.

Yesterday was quite random. Myself and my friend Mandy decided to go for lunch and to see a film in good old London town but we only managed to do the lunch part. The rest of the day/night turned into a kind of pub crawl instead. We started off at the Intrepid Fox, a rock/metal bar that played anything from Wednesday 13 to Evanescence. Then moved onto a small bar called the Crobar in Soho which seemed a little more hardcore and played a lot of heavy metal. Both bars I felt comfortable in, it was my kind of thing. I might actually review them at a later date. After that we went for a drink in the Sussex, had an expensive cocktail in Detroit and ended the evening in the Spice of Life.  Then feeling a little peckish I stopped in Subway to get a veggie patty before heading home completely sober 🙂 The best days are the random unplanned ones.

Exciting Plans Ahead

Firstly I would like to apologise for my absence from the blogosphere as of late, my life just gets busier and busier. So as I tuck into a cheese and coleslaw sandwich I will begin to tell you what I’ve been up to. For the first time ever I have got heavily into the Vampire Diaries which is pretty much what my evenings have consisted of since I bought the first season on DVD. I know I’m quite slow on the uptake but I say it’s better late than never. It’s awesome and I seem to have struck up a fascination with the character Damon Salvatore who plays one of the blood suckers. He’s a bad guy but a good guy at heart and not to mention hot 🙂

I am slowly getting through my book when I’m not watching the Vampire Diaries in the evening. I like the fact that the story is set so close to where I live, it makes it more interesting. I might even try and visit All Hallows church in Greenwich to see if it’s how I imagined it to be.

I have booked a long weekend to Disneyland Paris with my friends Gemma and Heidi and I’m currently in discussion with a couple of other friends about a two-week holiday in Spain which I’m very excited about. It’s not until the beginning of June but I have already started planning things that I’ll need for it. I haven’t flown for 16 years and I’m determined to confront my fear of flying this year. Its got to be done if I want to see all these lovely places.

The past couple of weekends I have spent with my friend Mandy and her mum Ann (who you’ll probably hear about a lot in future blogs) watching films, eating take-away and drinking wine. Girlie nights in are certainly the in thing for me at the moment, it beats being out and about in the cold.

Work has been busy, a bit hard going at times but its nice to have things to focus on. I’m also planning on attending a couple of conventions which I will tell you about nearer the time. I couldn’t be happier with how 2012 is turning out so far.
