A Quick Look Back On My 2013

Posted on

I consider 2013 as being a good year looking back. I have been on two amazing holidays and made many happy memories. The Spain and Canary Island Cruise in May was awesome and it was lovely to spend time with two of my very good friends during this time. We did have a lot of fun and we laughed until we cried a lot of the time. Some people may of even thought we were a little mad but we didn’t have a care in the world. Thinking about it makes me want to book another cruise for next year but as I have some crazy saving to do I don’t think I’ll be booking anything.

Disneyland Paris is never a let down (in my opinion anyway) and I was lucky enough to take my niece Jordan on her first trip there. I’m not sure who exactly was the biggest kid but I’m pretty sure it was me. I love all the rides and meeting as many characters as I can. Despite going at peak season and having to face the crowds of people and the queues, we still had a great time. I would have loved to have returned next year but that also looks very unlikely.

There has been a few events that have stuck in my mind from this year including the annual ‘West End Live’ in Trafalgar Square, conventions such as ‘Collectormania’ in Milton Keynes ‘London Film and Comic Con’ ‘Hyper Japan’ and ‘ToyCon’ were all enjoyable and I hope to return to these events again next year. Another event I enjoyed was the charity football match between ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Les Miserable’.

This year saw me try my hand at creating things with Polymer clay which goes well when I have the time apart from when I burnt two tea light holders in the oven much to the horror of my mother who had to clean the blackness from her oven the next day, oops! I also joined a amateur operatic society and performed in my first show which was successful. Unfortunately because of the lack of young talent and men, the society will be closing after our next show in March. It has left me wondering what I should do next, if I even feel like doing anything after that.

There has been some events I have been to which I haven’t mentioned in my posts like Seeing various bands live at Wembley Arena and the London o2 such as ‘Paramore’ ’30 Seconds to Mars’ and ‘Boyzone’. I have also been to a couple of WWE events and loved it… more for next year I think, including some more gigs and shows that are already planned. So far I’m rather looking forward to 2014, I hope you are too!

Online Donating

Posted on

Why do people avoid it like the plague? It could be for one of the best and most established charity’s going but people still won’t donate. I myself have had previous experience with this when setting up donation pages such as ‘Just Giving’. You’ve probably thought of a great fund-raising idea which you think will grab people’s attention but still it goes unnoticed. Well not exactly unnoticed, they probably looked at it before turning their noses up and passing it by.

A friend of mine set up a page over a week ago to raise money for the amazing ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ but since then, she has only had 3 donations online, one of them being mine. I don’t know what people are so scared of. Fair enough, times are hard and it is close to Christmas but it’s the same all year through. Maybe they aren’t aware of how donation sites work or whether they are safe to use. At one point I wondered this myself but I found them easy to use and very secure… in fact just as secure as your online shopping sites.

Earlier this year another friend of mine set up a page and his fundraising activity was to create a large mosaic. He began putting a lot of effort in but had hardly any donations. It knocked his confidence hard and he threatened to give up on occasions but I convinced him to keep going. He had a few donations in the end but he deserved so much more.

The charity someone chooses to help is often one of significance and means a lot to them. They are not chosen on a whim. If I think a charity is worth while (and I’m friends with the person who organised it), I will donate. Even a couple of quid goes a long way and makes the person raising the money incredibly happy.

Poll Results

Now that I have come to the end of my ’31 day gratitude experiment’, it’s freed up a little thinking time in my over-active brain. So from the POLL I put up a few posts back (which wasn’t as successful as I had hoped) I decided to work on the two chosen categories ‘poetry’ and ‘personal ramblings’. I’m going to try to base my poetry on the art of ‘Consuelo Parra’ as I have found her work quite inspirational. The idea popped into my head during a quiet moment at work (I don’t get many of those), and once I have an idea I tend to stick with it.

As for personal ramblings, this will be a challenge in itself as I find it very difficult to open up and I didn’t realise this until fairly recently. On a different blogging note, I’ve finally passed 2000 views on sheryl’s bloggy blog, received over 200 likes and now also have over 50 followers. This may not seem like a big deal to most bloggers but it is to me.

I’ve said it before and I say it again ‘Thank you’! I appreciate any kind of acknowledgement, it really does mean a lot to me. Just knowing that my little blog is being noticed makes me happy. It’s still not too late to vote on my poll, I would love your opinion.

First Time Poll

Posted on

I’ve recently been giving my blog posts a lot of thought by planning the contents of what I write but I’ve realised that no matter how hard I think, I still don’t know what is going to be popular or not. I’m thinking too much and it’s not necessary. Blog posts should be natural and free flowing. The best way to find out what an audience wants is to just simply ask them. So for the very first time I’ve created a poll to see just what you guys want to see more of on my blog so please vote.

Any other suggestions will be welcomed in the comments below 🙂

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,500 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Well thank you great stats helper monkey’s!

Despite getting the most ever views on my post ‘A Super Disappointment’ I had absolutely NO likes on it. The infamous crown of thorns subject caused quite a stir. Yes it was rather controversial and I wrote it in haste but did I really deserve the one (quite childish if I may add) comment that I received from a Sarah Jane Willow who obviously thought my opinion counts for others. I’m sorry to say I can give back just as much as I get. But can I just say that what I include in my blog posts is a matter of interest and personal taste and  doesn’t necessarily reflect the opinions of others. I’m just a mere speck in the blogosphere. I do respect the opinions of other and encourage people to leave comments on my posts (more comments please) if they are constructive and don’t launch into abusive drivel.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the biggest commenter of my blog posts the lovely Miss Hayley who also writes some fantabulous blog posts so please check her out.

to all my visitors/followers please don’t pass by without a like or a comment as it’s nice to know that people exist out there once in a while 🙂

with much appreciation
