Yun*chi

Posted on

J-Pop artist Yun*chi performed at Hyper Japan at Earls Court, London on 27th July. Not being familiar with her (or any J-Pop music to be honest) I decided to look her videos up on YouTube. The only way I can possibly describe her and her music would be unique, fun and completely adorable. The only obvious problem is, I can’t understand a word she is singing. She wears some fantastic outfits too.

Hyper Japan 2013

The UK’s biggest J-culture event came to Earls Court, London this weekend. This is an annual event but it was my first time attending. There was so much to see including J-pop performances, martial arts demonstrations, fashion shows and Cosplay competitions. There were many awesome stalls showcasing artwork and selling cute home-made Kawaii accessories, clothes, toys and Japanese sweets. A large gaming area attracted many people including my niece who had a go on the new Zelda game for the 3Ds.

The main stage saw presentations by robotics companies, Japanese comic storytelling and a mix of live performances and demonstrations. An array of hot food, snacks and drinks were available and proved to be very popular judging by the queues. We arrived early but we started getting tired and a little bit bored around 3pm as we had seen most of the things they had to offer. This doesn’t mean that I had been put off, in fact I would love to go again next year and possibly even be brave and join in with the Cosplay action myself. Go to the Hyper Japan website HERE to find out more about it.

It’s a Boy!!!

…. If you didn’t already know! Only joking, I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now.

I couldn’t let today pass without marking the occasion in a blog post.

Those that don’t care (and believe me there are), there’s really no need for you to be reading this.

Congratulations William and Kate on the birth of your baby boy weighing 8lb 6oz, at 16:24 BST at St Mary’s Hospital, west London. I can’t help thinking about how proud Princess Diana would be right now. Just waiting on a name 🙂

My True Calling

Posted on

Apart from catching up with Supernatural, spending time with family and seeing ‘Man of Steel’ at the cinema recently in my spare time I have also discovered a new recreational activity. I have joined a local Amateur Operatic Society that I didn’t know existed. I’ve always been very fond of singing; usually around the house, on PlayStation sing star games or more rarely on Karaoke. I wouldn’t normally sing in-front of strangers but knew I could hold a tune. For a while now I have also been interested in musical Theatre but realised that it’s too late to pursue a career in this field being nearly 33 years old. That’s why when this opportunity came up, I wasn’t sure whether it was fate (if you believe in that kind of thing) or pure chance.

This week I have to turn up a little earlier to run through some keys with the music teacher to work out whether I am a Tenor, Bass, Alto or Soprano. Unfortunately I may not be able to take part in October’s show as I joined too late and rehearsals are well under way already. I’m happy just to be there and sing a bit.

Anyway, while I’m here I wanted to give a shout out to ‘London Live’ recently created by my good friend Emma. She put this blog together to be able to share her London-based experiences and give you the chance to share yours too. She’s looking for anyone who would like to guest post any reviews and stories about Theatre shows, hotels, events, restaurants, museums, Art Galleries…. well you get my drift! Just about everything and anything of interest basically. Go and give her a follow for me 🙂

A Sunny Day in Hyde Park

I nearly forgot all about this collection of photos that I took in Hyde Park during the Big IF London Rally. I had been meaning to post them for a while. As you can see I took a real interest in the Prince Albert memorial.

Carrie Hope Fletcher

Carrie Hope Fletcher, known for her YouTube video’s recently joined the Les Miserables cast as Eponine. This was a dream come true for the 20-year-old who played young eponine when she was 7 years old. Fans that hadn’t yet seen Carrie at the Queens Theatre had the opportunity to have a sneak peek yesterday at West End Live in Trafalgar Square. Her emotional performance of ‘On My Own’ blew everyone away.

The following video is of the complete Les Mis performance at West End Live filmed by my friend Emma.

Here’s a collection of Photos I took of Carrie and the rest of the cast.

Carrie will continue to make video’s on her YouTube channel ItsWayPastMyBedtime throughout her years long contract in Les Mis.
