Big IF London

Posted on

Yesterday (8th June) myself and my niece Jordan attended the Big IF London Rally in Hyde Park to contribute to the thousands of campaigners who turned up to make some noise to persuade G8 leaders to put an end to world hunger, which has been an ongoing issue for many years. I was made aware of this event through Jordan who is a fan of YouTuber Charlie McDonnell (Charlieissocoollike) who has teamed up with Save The Children and his mum Lindsay Atkin to raise awareness of malnutrition. They experienced the effects of this first hand through a trip to Tanzania. While they were out there they made a series of video’s to make others aware of this problem too. Inspired by their determination to make a difference, I thought I should do my bit and share this with you all.

Hyde park was the ideal location to hold this event and we had such lovely weather for it too. Hosts Myleene Klass and Gethin Jones welcomed a variety of performers and speakers onto the main stage to help get the message across and different support groups had areas set up on location. We mingled around the video bloggers tent where a few other YouTubers had arrived to be part of the day.

We headed over to a separate part of the park to contribute to the thousands of spinning flowers which had been planted by campaigners. Each petal on each flower represented the 2 million children who die of hunger each year. This was an impressive sight and a powerful message to send to world leaders.

Here’s how it all unravelled.

I really hope that we all made a big enough impact for world leaders to take notice and do something. This isn’t just a problem in Tanzania and other parts of the world but also affects families in the UK. Nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry every night. This has to end. To find out more about the campaign, go to the main website HERE. You can help by raising awareness in a way you know best…blogging! You can write your own post or re-blog mine. The more publicity the better.

Getting to Know Prose

Posted on

After staring at a blank piece of paper for hours on end I finally produced ‘Defeated’. It didn’t come easy as I’m still trying to adapt to the style of prose but I was so much happier with the finished product in comparison to ‘Don’t Judge Me’. I think it flows with ease and captures the imagination leaving people to think about what happened to make her feel the way she feels. I have recently found inspiration in the poetry blogs of others who have made me understand prose a little better.

One of my first prose attempts  entitled ‘Garden of Decay’ now features in the February 2013 issue of the online magazine ‘Full of Crow’ which you can view HERE. Looking back on it, I don’t think I did it enough justice but it was a big confidence boost to have it accepted. It has led me to believe in myself a little more and have some faith in my creations.

I have been meaning to edit my ‘ABOUT’ page for quite a while now so that’s what I’m going to do by the end of today. I first wrote this page when I started my blog over a year ago, so it’s looking a little dated and not very insightful. Apart from that I shall be reading more poetry blogs and thinking about my next poem.

31 Day Gratitude Experiment

Posted on

During the month of January I will be noting down all the little things that I am grateful for. While trying to find a little inspiration last night I came across this page  http://getbusylivingblog.com/real-life-changing-the-30-day-gratitude-experiment/ I  could have started it last night but I thought I would save it for the new year instead.

Today I went out and bought a new note pad especially for the occasion and I’m going to do exactly as ‘get busy living’ has said. I’m hoping this will make me realise all the things I usually take for granted. Sometimes you have to take a step back to really appreciate what you have and this little activity will help me do just that.

At the end of each week I shall share my list of gratefulness with all of Blogsville. Well that’s if the ‘end of the world’ doesn’t interrupt my plans… I mean who really believes that anyway?
