Well I got there! My 100th post. Quite an accomplishment when you don’t know whether your going to stick with blogging or not. But I love it so much and I don’t know what I would do with my spare time if I didn’t have my blog. I was unsure what to write for my first post so I came up with ‘The Joys of Christmas Shopping’ on the 3rd December 2011. Looking back on it it seems pretty lame. I don’t know why I didn’t write a proper introduction about myself at the time as it seems like such a sudden way to begin things. But generally speaking, I don’t think I’ve done too badly. I started my blog because I love sharing things with people, be it people I know or not. I also love to read other people’s blogs too, sometimes we are influenced and inspired more by total strangers.

Here are 10 of my favourite blog posts I have made since joining WordPress:

  1. Vampires Don’t Sparkle
  2. A big Price to Pay for Being Different
  3. Being Human – The Big Change
  4. Disneyland Paris Parade
  5. A Picture with Meaning
  6. A Super Disappointment
  7. Entertainment Media Show
  8. Mini Tea Signing 2012
  9. Sugar Skull
  10. Paignton Zoo

Here’s to the next 100 posts 🙂

Being Human – The Big Change

Posted on

I’ve just finished watching series two of ‘Being Human’… I know I’m a late starter and there’s not really a valid excuse for it but as the saying goes; better late than never! and in this case that saying definitely sums it up. I mean, how can you beat such a great combination? A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost all living under the same roof. Its horror/fiction fans idea of heaven. So far my verdict is a big thumbs up. It has proved very addictive due to the superb story-lines and the original 3 amazing actors playing the main parts; all of which struggle with trying to be as normal as possible within their day-to-day lives. It doesn’t quite work out that way though.

Russell Tovey’s portrayal of a werewolf is beyond awesome. George is a sensitive soul but extremely comical, he’s had me in fits of laughter on many occasions throughout the first two series’. He’s struggling to come to terms with the fact that he may never be a part of a normal family. His ultimate dream is to have a wife and lots of kids. He expresses his emotions really well and will have you tearing up at the littlest things bless him. He’s the kind of character you just want to hug. He plays the part so well that he’ll have you convinced that he’s really turning into a werewolf; his display of pain and the scared expression on his face will make you cringe but I can’t say much for the werewolf itself… that’s not so convincing! they could have made it a little more realistic considering the technology they have these days. George is probably my favourite character.

Aidan Turner is very vampire like. They hit the nail on the head when they cast him, probably because they knew he was going to be popular with the ladies. He’s tall, dark, handsome and a little rugged… just what a vampire should look like! well in my eye’s anyway 🙂 Mitchell certainly adds a darker and more gorier side to the show. He too is longing for a more human life, but his attempts to go; how shall I put it… cold turkey (with feeding from humans) doesn’t really go so well.

Lenora Critchlow plays a very pretty ghost who was killed by her ex Fiance. After finding out the truth about what happened to her, Annie still can’t exit this world and leave her best friends George and Mitchell behind who have also become very attached to the slightly scatty apparition with an outstanding tea making ability. Annie adds vulnerability to the show but gets stronger with each venture she experiences. The friendship and loyalty of all three characters is rather heart-warming, excuse the pun.

Now here’s where someone sticks a pin in my bubble and bursts it! Having just found out that 3 of the now four main characters have been killed off,  its left me feeling somewhat… disappointed and disheartened. Obviously those of you who have been watching all along already know and is old news. Fortunately I’ve heard some good things about the new cast which is promising but it doesn’t help the way I feel about losing George and Mitchell even though I have to wait until series 4 to see the big change and I haven’t even seen series 3 yet. I just hope the new characters have some of the qualities which made George and Mitchell so appealing. Now I wait I suppose.

The past couple of days

After having had such a good weekend catching up with friends in the lovely town of Guildford I’m starting to feel those pre Monday blues. We enjoyed a bit of retail therapy before a pleasant meal at Jamie’s Italian which I must say didn’t really have a wide choice of vegetarian meals on the menu, neither did it state clearly which dishes were vegetarian. To be honest there wasn’t a wide range of food full stop which I suppose eliminates having to spend ages deciding what to have. I had the Honeycomb Cannelloni done 3 ways using aubergine and sun-dried tomato pumpkin, ricotta and spinach. I enjoyed the variety of taste but I wouldn’t have said it was amazing. For dessert I had the ultimate brownie; made with chocolate, raspberry and amaretto with a side dollop of vanilla ice cream. Apart from getting raspberry seeds stuck in my teeth and feeling a tad sick half way through the soft textured desert I quite enjoyed it although it could have done with just a bit more ice cream which accompanied the brownie really well. The service was to a high standard and the waiters were quite humorous and chatty.

Today I had one of my favourite kind of days…a lazy one to which I spent most of in bed watching heroes and Smallville. I have finally finished season 9 of Smallville, it took me a while but I got there in the end. I’m putting off buying season 10 at the moment because I don’t want it to end, its my favourite show! I’m not entirely sure about carrying on Smallville season 11 in a comic book but I might take a look if I see it. I’ve never really read a comic before but there’s always a first time for everything. I’m starting to get more and more into heroes now and its all starting to link together and make a little more sense. I’m only on episode 8 of season 1 but it seems pretty awesome. I bought the first season of ‘the Walking Dead’ and series 1 and 2 of ‘Being Human’ yesterday so I now have plenty to keep me occupied.

I’ve posted in my new creative blog again today… two posts actually! One is another new poem and the other is a couple of photographs of Guildford castle from yesterday’s trip. Please feel free to pop by there and check them out. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I know, I know… I haven’t been here for a while but I apologise for that! I have no excuse but the fact that I really haven’t been up to much lately and didn’t really want to bore anyone with my meaningless waffling! I just wanted to let you know I haven’t forgotten about sherylsbloggyblog and I have lots of things that I want to write about in the future. At the moment all is quiet on the life front and while its been cold I have enjoyed some nights in watching seasons 1 to 3 of True Blood which I have become an instant fan of. I am now currently working my way through season 1 of Heroes and I plan to get my hands on ‘The Circle’, ‘Walking Dead’ and ‘Being Human’. I whole heartedly admit that I am a complete geek and proud of it 🙂

As I sit here watching Kerrang I’m feeling excited about a couple of gigs I’ve got booked to see ‘Lost Prophets’ and ‘The Used’ which I’m sure you’ll hear about at some point. I watched ‘Daybreakers’ today which is an awesome film and positioned at number 17 in SFX magazines special vampires edition for the 25 greatest vampire movies on the planet… you will have to buy the magazine to find out what number 1 is but I wasn’t disappointed with the result. Anyway… I’ll be back soon, I promise!
