It’s a Boy!!!

Posted on

…. If you didn’t already know! Only joking, I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now.

I couldn’t let today pass without marking the occasion in a blog post.

Those that don’t care (and believe me there are), there’s really no need for you to be reading this.

Congratulations William and Kate on the birth of your baby boy¬†weighing 8lb 6oz, at 16:24 BST at St Mary’s Hospital, west London. I can’t help thinking about how proud Princess Diana would be right now. Just waiting on a name ūüôā

Big IF London

Yesterday (8th June) myself and my niece Jordan attended the Big IF London Rally in Hyde Park to contribute to the thousands of campaigners who turned up to make some noise to persuade G8 leaders to put an end to world hunger, which has been an ongoing issue for many years. I was made aware of this event through Jordan who is a fan of YouTuber Charlie McDonnell (Charlieissocoollike) who has teamed up with Save The Children and his mum Lindsay Atkin to raise awareness of malnutrition. They experienced the effects of this first hand through a trip to Tanzania. While they were out there they made a series of video’s to make others aware of this problem too. Inspired by their determination to make a difference, I thought I should do my bit and share this with you all.

Hyde park was the ideal location to hold this event and we had such lovely weather for it too. Hosts Myleene Klass and Gethin Jones welcomed a variety of performers and speakers onto the main stage to help get the message across and different support groups had areas set up on location. We mingled around the video bloggers tent where a few other YouTubers had arrived to be part of the day.

We headed over to a separate part of the park to contribute to the thousands of spinning flowers which had been planted by campaigners. Each petal on each flower represented the 2 million children who die of hunger each year. This was an impressive sight and a powerful message to send to world leaders.

Here’s how it all unravelled.

I really hope that we all made a big enough impact for world leaders to take notice and do something. This isn’t just a problem in Tanzania and other parts of the world but also affects families in the UK. Nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry every night. This has to end. To find out more about the campaign, go to the main website HERE.¬†You can help by raising awareness in a way you know best…blogging! You can write your own post or re-blog mine. The more publicity the better.

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium

Posted on

Being a big cat lover I was excited to hear about a new business idea by Lauren Pears. She plans to open a cat cafe in London. I had never heard of such a thing before, but apparently it’s very popular in Japan. Basically it’s a place you can go for tea and cakes and a chance to interact with lovely felines while you’re there. This is a great idea for anyone who can’t keep cats for themselves because landlords won’t allow it. This particularly appeals to me as I can’t risk getting a cat before I move to a flat in fear of this exact reason. I would love nothing more than to be able to devote my spare time to my favourite animal.

As an animal lover I’m constantly worrying about the welfare of animals within the environment of various collections. But I have no concern whatsoever about the welfare of the cats in the care of this establishment. Lauren insists that the welfare of the cats is of up most importance and I can imagine that the animals will absolutely love all the attention from visitors to the cafe once it is up and running. The business will also offer customers the chance to adopt a cat which will help with the running costs of their care.

Lauren is currently working towards raising money to make her dream a reality. She has already received a lot of press which has so far helped raise over ¬£13,000. This is where you can help! If you would like to donate to ‘Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium’¬†then just click on the link which will take you to Lauren’s indiegogo page. If you are strapped for cash but still want to help then spread the word… re-blog my post or write your own, advertise it on your social networking sites and go share some love by liking and leaving messages of support on the¬†facebook¬†and twitter¬†pages. In the mean time take a look at the video which explains everything.

Sleep Tight Little Angels

I was deeply shocked and saddened when I heard the news on Friday. Today I took some time out of what I was doing and fell silent to think of everyone affected by the school shooting in Connecticut, US. 20 Children and 6 teachers were killed at ‘Sandy Hook Elementary School’ in Newtown. I can’t begin to imagine what their family and friends are going through. How you even begin to understand a tragedy like this is beyond me, I just hope they manage to find some comfort in the support so many people around the world are giving them right now.

For the families of the teachers that lost their lives that day protecting the children, I hope they find that a comfort in itself… they died heroes and without their bravery so many more innocent¬†children would have been killed. This particular time of year should be one of joy, and many would have already wrapped up their children’s presents. It’s cruel how lives can change in an instant. My prayers will be with you all at Christmas and I sincerely hope you can find the strength to rebuild your lives eventually. Rest in peace little ones.

More Cycle Lanes Please!

Posted on

I caught something on the news this morning about introducing a walking and cycling action plan which I’m sure was mentioned a year or two ago but anyway, I’ve always been all for encouraging a healthier lifestyle but if they are going to push for this I honestly think they should build more cycle lanes. Not just to protect the cyclists but to protect the pedestrians as well.

When I was small, I had a bad experience which I can still recall clearly to this day. I was 4 years old when I was knocked down by a cyclist in his teens riding on the pavement as I walked beside my mum on our way to the local shops. He came so fast round a corner that he had no time to stop when he saw me. When he finally put on his breaks and stopped he didn’t even apologise to my mum who was picking me up from the floor. Instead his father appeared and had a go at my mum for the fact that he had broken his breaks when he applied them at full force after he had knocked me down and they walked away.

Luckily I wasn’t badly hurt and carried on up the road with my then very angry mum to the shops. On average three pedestrians are killed each year by careless cyclists and although rare, they can’t ignore the fact that it can happen. Obviously compared to road traffic accidents that’s nothing. Still, Cyclists should not be permitted to ride on pavements.

Help for Macaulay

Posted on

After reading an article in today’s Sun newspaper and seeing disturbing photo’s of a very Gaunt looking Macaulay Culkin, I felt the need to express how I feel about it. Firstly I would like to go back to the 90’s when I became a fan of his, being the star of ‘Home Alone’, one of the best Christmas movies of all time, I was intrigued to see what else he could do so followed his career. It was ‘My Girl’ also starring Anna Chlumsky that did it for me… it fast became one of my favourite films and as an obsessed 12-year-old girl I watched it over and over again. Macaulay became so successful that it became evident that fame was taking its toll on the young actor. He quit acting at just 14 and went off the rails falling out with his father. Then along came the drugs.

Despite being a complete nutter I can’t help but feel sorry for him. Yes he got himself into this mess but it just goes to show what a weak individual he really is. It looks as though he got himself so far into a rut that he couldn’t find a way out and I think he needs help. I just hope he’s around people compassionate enough to give him this help. As I’m the same age as Macaulay I believe that you come to a point where you do start to give a shit and pull yourself together. Your not that 14-year-old any more Mack and you can put things right… your father has reached out to you in this article and I think however much you despised him all those years ago, it doesn’t have to be like that now, you’ll regret it when it’s too late. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for people who care like me.

If the rumours are true about him having just six months to live then this is very sad and unfortunate. This shouldn’t be his fate. With a career spanning back to 1985 and the fact that he is still so young, he should be living a happy, healthy and untroubled life with so much more ahead of him. I truly hope it doesn’t end this way.
